SciFlow and Grounded AI Announces Integration of Veracity to Strengthen Citation Integrity in Academic Publishing

Berlin, Germany – March 2026 – SciFlow, the collaborative writing and publishing platform for academia, and Grounded AI, developers of Veracity today announced the upcoming integration of Veracity citation checking technology into SciFlows authoring and publishing workflows. The integration, planned for 2026, will help authors, editors, and their institutions to identify citation issues earlier in the writing and submission process.

SciFlow is used by universities, research institutions, and publishers worldwide to simplify academic writing through real-time collaboration, automatic formatting, and structured publishing workflows. With the addition of Grounded, SciFlow extends this approach to research integrity, embedding citation checks directly into the writing process.

The integration is being developed in close collaboration with pilot customers, including the Max Planck Society and the Helmholtz Association, two of Europe’s largest research organizations. Their involvement ensures that the solution aligns with real-world institutional requirements and established research integrity policies.

Citation checks embedded in the writing workflow

Grounded AI Veracity analyzes references for common citation problems, including:

- alerts for retracted or withdrawn literature

- inconsistencies in metadata such as DOIs, publication years, or journal information

- sources that may be difficult for editors or reviewers to verify

- signals where citations may not clearly support the surrounding claims

By surfacing these issues while authors are still writing, the integration helps reduce avoidable revision cycles during peer review and production.

Research integrity as a shared responsibility

“Research integrity is a joint effort,” said Carsten Borchert, CEO of SciFlow.

“It is not only the responsibility of individual researchers or publishers. Institutions play a crucial role by providing the right policies, guidance, and infrastructure. With this integration, SciFlow helps institutions support good scholarly practice at scale, directly within the tools researchers already use.”

For institutions and publishers, the integration supports:

- faster and smoother review processes

- reduced editorial workload

- lower reputational risk related to problematic citations

- stronger alignment with institutional and funder-driven research integrity frameworks

For authors, it provides greater confidence at submission time, knowing that potential reference-related concerns have already been flagged early.

A natural extension of SciFlow’s mission

The Grounded integration builds on SciFlow’s long-standing mission to simplify academic writing and publishing. Starting with collaborative writing and automatic formatting, SciFlow has continuously expanded its platform to support end-to-end publishing workflows, including PDF/UA typesetting and structured outputs such as XML and EPUB.

"Grounded AI is delighted to be partnering with SciFlow to help authors and editors use Veracity to check citations automatically, saving time and supporting high editorial standards in academic publishing." said Nick Morley, Chief Citation Checker at Grounded AI.
